Description
Tired of the same old shell stitch? With the open shell picot there is a series of picot and double crochet stitches between each shell for a whole new look to an old favorite. The shells are very defined in this pattern.
Materials and Supplies
Any weight yarn with the appropriate size crochet hook. Our sample was made using worsted weight yarn and a size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook.
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet
sk = skip
sp = space
st(s) = stitch (es)
tr = treble crochet (triple crochet)
Craft Instructions
Multiple of 7 sets (add 1 for base chain)

Picot = sc, ch 3, sc
Shell = dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc
Row 1 (right side): Sc into 2nd ch from hook, *sk 2 ch, work a shell into next ch, sk 2 ch, sc into next ch, **ch 3, sc into next ch rep from * ending last rep at **, turn
Row 2: Ch 7, *work a picot into center dc of next shell, ch 3, ** dc into next ch 3 arch, ch 3; rep from * ending last rep at **, tr into last sc, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc into first st, *sk next ch 3 sp, shell into center of next picot, sk next ch 3 sp, ** picot into next dc; rep from * ending last rep at ** sk 3 ch, sc into next ch, turn
