Description

Unique gift idea for Father's Day or Christmas!

By slicing the wine corks into 1/2" disks you can make your wine corks go a lot further. Cork is a great protector when drinking hot drinks and it also absorbs the sweat from cold drinks. Make a set and tie them together with some raffia or ribbon and give as a gift!

Tip: Cigar cutters start at only $2 and are a fast easy way to cut uniform corks.

Materials and Supplies

Craft Supplies:

  • 1/8" thick cork (it comes in a roll or sheet)
  • Wine corks (3 or 4)
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Tacky glue
  • Cigar cutter or utility knife

Note: Older kids can help make these coasters but cutting the wine corks should always be done by an adult.

Craft Instructions

  1. Using a cigar cutter or a utility knife, cut your wine corks into 1/2" thick pieces. You will need 16 pieces.
  2. Hot glue the cork pieces together so that you have four rows of four. To do this, use hot glue to glue the edges together.
  3. Cut a piece of the 1/8" thick cork so that it is just slightly smaller than your assembled corks disks.
  4. Spread a layer of tacky glue on one side of the 1/8" thick piece of cork and press the assembled set of cork circles into the tacky glue. This provides a backing to your coaster. If the circles are not making good contact with the backing piece of cork, place a book or other heavy flat object on top of the cork circles until the glue is dry.
