Craft Elf has incorporated the country grove knitting stitch into this beautiful and useful knitted dishcloth. Once you start using knit or crochet dishcloths made from cotton yarn, you won't want to go back to the store bought ones.
The nice soft cotton yarn holds up well to repeated washings and is excellent for scrubbing and cleaning kitchen counters and tables.
Materials and Supplies
Knitting Supplies:
- Size 7 (4.5mm) Knitting needles
- Peaches & Cream 4-ply worsted weight cotton yarn
Approximate finished size 8 1/2" wide x 7 1/2" high.
Abbreviations:
- sts = stitches
- k = knit
- p = purl
- rep = repeat
Always remember that dishcloths cannot be made from acrylic yarns. You need to use cotton yarn.
Craft Instructions
- Cast on 39 sts
Beginning Border:
- Row 1: K3, *p3, k3. Repeat from * across
- Row 2: P3, *k3, p3. Repeat from * across
- Row 3: K3, *p3, k3. Repeat from * across
Body:
- Row 1 (right side): K3, p3, k27, p3, k3.
- Row 2: P3, k33, p3
- Row 3: Rep row 1
- Row 4: P3, *k3, p3; rep from * across.
- Row 5: P3, k33, p3
- Row 6: K3, p6, *k3, p3; rep from * across
- Row 7: Rep row 5
- Row 8: K3, p3, k27, p3, k3
- Row 9: Rep row 1
- Row 10: Rep row 2
- Row 11: Rep row 1
- Row 12: P3, k6, *p3, k3; rep from * across to last 6 sts, k3, p3
- Row 13: Rep row 5
- Row 14: K3, *p3, k3; rep from * across
- Row 15: Rep row 5
- Row 16: Rep row 8
Repeat rows 1 - 16 two more times.
Ending Border: Repeat rows 1 - 3 of beginning border. Bind off with a p3, k3 pattern. Weave loose ends back into your work.
