Description

Do you know someone who likes to play with dice. You can make them a special dice ornament for their Christmas tree!

If kids are going to make this fun family craft, you will need to cut the Styrofoam block into a cube for them but they can have fun painting it. Our sample was made in the traditional white with black dots but have fun and make the dice in different colors.

Materials and Supplies

Craft Supplies:

  • Styrofoam block *
  • Sharp knife or Styrofoam cutting tool
  • Eye hook
  • Paintbrush
  • Acrylic paint; white and black
  • Pencil with a new eraser
  • Optional: Q-tip
  • White glue

*Our block was 1-15/16" x 3-7/8" x 11-7/8" but you could use a different size block

Craft Instructions

  1. Using a either a sharp knife or a Styrofoam cutting tool, cut a 1-15/16" cube from the block of Styrofoam.
  2. Use the eraser end of a pencil to make dot indents in the sides of the cube to represent the dots on the dice. If you want the dots to be laid out as they are on a real die, use a real die as your model. A helpful tip to remember, the two numbers on opposite sides of the dice always add up to 7. So 6 is always opposite 1, 4 is opposite 3 and 2 is opposite 5.
  3. Paint the entire cube white or whatever color you want the dice to be. Let dry.
  4. Paint the dots black. It may be helpful to use a Q-tip dipped in black paint to do this. Let dry.
  5. Dip the screw end of an eye hook into white glue then insert that end into one corner of the dice.
