Materials and Supplies
Craft Supplies:
- 1 Brown or tan chenille stem (Pipe cleaner)
- 12" piece of paper twist, Natural or tan color
- Bar pin with three holes in it
- 12" piece thin ribbon in fall color
- 45 tri beads - 5 beads each of 3 different colors per ear of corn. You will make 3 ears of corn.
Craft Instructions
- Cut the paper-twist in thirds. This will give you three piece each 4" long. Set aside.
- Cut the pipe cleaner in thirds giving you three pieces each 4" long.
- Slightly bend one end of each pipe cleaner to prevent the beads from sliding off.
- For each ear of corn, you will use 5 beads each of 3 different colors for a total of 15 tri-beads per ear. You will be making 3 ears of corn for a total of 45 beads. Do not be afraid to experiment with non traditional colors like blue and purple.
- Working with the unbent end of the pipe cleaner, *slide on one bead of color 1, then one bead of color 2 and one bead of color 3. Repeat from * until all 15 beads are on the 4" piece of pipe cleaner. This will only fill the pipe cleaner about half way.
- Repeat step 5 with your other two pipe cleaners. The color combinations can be different for each of the three ears.
- Untwist the three pieces of paper twist. These will be your husks.
- Poke the straight end of your pipe cleaner thru the paper twist about an inch or so below the top end of the paper twist. Then, re-twist the paper that is both above and below your beads. Set aside.
- Repeat step 8 with the other two ears of corn.
- Take the bar pin and keep the flat side facing you. Poke one pipe cleaner thru each of the three holes.
- Carefully open up the pin and tightly twist the three pipe cleaner ends together.
- Adjust the ears of corn how you would like them then, tie a piece of ribbon around the top of all three husks and tie it in a bow. Trim ends of ribbon at an angle for a more finished look.
