Craft Instructions
Angel Pins
Angel pins are made much the same as the ornaments except they are smaller, you don't have a string at the top for hanging and you attach a pin to the back. Below are the modified directions. Please refer to the pictures on the printable page for clarification of the step by step directions.
- Cut a piece of cardboard 3 1/4" x 3 1/2". This will be your template for wrapping the crochet thread around.
- Wrap the crochet thread around the 3 1/2" side of the cardboard 60 times. Cut a 6" piece of crochet thread and slide it between the cardboard and the thread at the top. This will form the top of the angels head. Slide the wrapped thread off the cardboard. Your thread should be going through the looped thread at this point. Securely tie this piece of thread in a double knot as pictured. Cut off and discard the ends after knotting.
- Tie a piece of thread around the looped threads approximately a finger's width down from the knot you already tied. This forms the head. Place this aside for the moment.
- Wrap the crochet thread around the 3 1/4" side of the cardboard 25 times. Carefully slide this off the cardboard and tie a piece of thread close to both ends. This forms the arms.
- Slide the arms through the center of the body just below the head and tie a piece of string around the body just below the arms.
- Cut the loops at the bottom of the angel and trim the ends evenly.
- Make a bow from the ribbon. This will be the angel's wings. Using the hot glue, glue the bow to the back of the angel. Trim the ends of the ribbon on an angle so they are fairly even with the bottom of the angel.
- Bring the hands into the body of the angel as pictured and glue in place.
- Cut a small piece of either gold or silver pipecleaner and form a ring with it that just fits on the tip of your pinky finger. Twist the ends onto the ring to secure it. Hot glue this to the top of the angel's head to form the halo.
- Glue a bar pin to the back of your angel.
Angel Ornament
- Cut a piece of cardboard 5" x 4". This will be your template for wrapping the crochet thread around.
- Wrap the crochet thread around the 5" side of the cardboard 125 times. Cut a 10" piece of crochet thread and slide it between the cardboard and the thread at the top. This piece will be your hanger. Slide the wrapped thread off the cardboard. Your hanger piece of thread should be going through the looped thread at this point. Securely tie the hanger piece of thread in a double knot as pictured. Tie the two loose ends of your hanger thread in an overhand knot.
- Tie a piece of thread around the looped threads approximately a thumb's width down from the hanger. This forms the head. Place this aside for the moment.
- Wrap the crochet thread around the 4" side of the cardboard 50 times.
- Cut a 3" piece of either gold or silver pipecleaner and form a ring with it that just fits on the tip of your finger. Twist the ends onto the ring to secure it. Slide the hanger string through the center of this ring and hot glue in place.
Note: When tying the thread around the angel to form the head and body the knots should both be on the same side and the side with the knots should become the back of your angel. It will give a neater appearance when complete.
