Description
A Knot Wreath is a great project to use up some of your extra fabric stash. By simply changing the material, you can make this wreath for any occasion and it makes a great gift! Anyone who can tie a knot can make this wreath.
Materials and Supplies
Craft Supplies:
- Metal clothes hanger
- Approximately 1 1/2 yards of 45" wide fabric
- Contrasting fabric 3" x 42"
- Pinking shears - optional
A rotary cutter with self healing mat is a great tool, although not necessary, for a job like this. Check out our gadget corner for more information if you are not familiar with this tool.
Craft Instructions
- Bend the hanger into a circle.
- Bend the hook of the hanger into a loop to form a hanger for the wreath as pictured.
-
Cut approximately 200 strips of fabric 7" long x 1 1/2" wide. You should get 30 strips across the width of the fabric and you will need to cut a little more than 6 rows. Pinking shears or a rotary cutter would be nice to use here.
-
Start knotting your strips, in a single knot (cross the ends and tuck it under once) onto the hanger. Push the strips close together as you attach them.
-
Leave a space at the bottom (opposite the hanger) to tie your bow on. To make the bow, cut a strip of fabric (with pinking shears if possible) 3" x 42". Cut the two ends at an angle for a more professional look. Attach the center of this fabric strip to the hanger in the same knot manner you used for the strips of fabric. Then, simply tie it in a nice neat bow.
Ideas:
- For a country wreath, use fabric with a country look and rip your strips instead of cutting them.
- Make a wreath for a baby shower and send it home with the mom-to-be.
- Use a nice spring print and give the wreath as a gift for Mother's day.
